BigVillage was established by Ross McGregor to bring together a community of people who have a passion for travel. Through the pages of BigVillage we share the experiences, recommendations and stories of our members to help you plan your next travel adventure.
Independent
Most travel websites list properties for payment or use the Global Distribution Systems (GDS) to provide listings. This way they can list many tens of thousands of hotels without the need to review them. BigVillage places an emphasis on quality rather than quantity – we only list businesses that are recommended by our members. As far as we know, we're the only one doing this.
BigVillage is entirely independent of large corporations and paid listings. The reviews you read are posted by members for your information.
Global community
BigVillage members live in many different countries – most of whom are seasoned travellers. You probably won’t find them on a coach tour or staying in anonymous hotels. Look for them in the piazza of an Italian mountain village, or exploring the Yorkshire dales. They’ve been found staying in French châteaux, canoeing down the Mekong River in Laos, and even avoiding giant anacondas in the Amazonas.
Local secrets
BV members have an amazing ability to discover the closely guarded secrets known only to the locals – often because they are locals. From staying at a magnificent 'riad' in Morocco to accommodation in a glorious bed and breakfast in the middle of London - the listings grow by the day.

BigVillage members share their experiences on these pages; often with warmth, wit and humour. We hope that a little of our members comes through in every listing and story.
