Individual opinion.
BigVillage is about sharing experiences. By posting a recommendation you are offering your opinion about somewhere you stayed and experienced. And it’s just that; an individual opinion that is subjective and based on individual values. Where some people value cleanliness as being critical, others will place an emphasis on proximity to public transport or friendliness of staff. The review should provide enough information for readers to decide if the recommendation suits their purpose.

All listings are provided by members for the information of other BigVillage members and visitors. BigVillage Pty Ltd does not make or endorse any recommendations.
Language.
BigVillage listings are recommendations, so what you write should describe your experience honestly. We value your opinion and would like it to be available to everyone. For this reason, reviews that are deemed to be defamatory, libellous or in other ways inappropriate will be rejected.
Writing in the first person.
(I, we) gives a more intimate feel to your review. “We received a warm welcome from staff’ sounds better than “A warm welcome was offered by staff”. When writing, imagine you’re chatting to a friend about somewhere you visited recently.
Original content.
The review must be your own so please don’t borrow wording or photos from other reviews or brochures. We don’t want to breach any copyright so ask you to ensure that the review is your own work and to allow us to use it without any royalty or restrictions.
Your own experience.
Don’t rely on third party information such as “Someone told us that the service is terrible over Christmas”. Unless you’ve experienced it, or can be sure of the facts, don’t write it.
Checking details.
It’s particularly important that you enter details such as the business name, address and phone number correctly. In Plymouth (UK) for example there is a Grosvenor Hotel and also a Grosvenor Park Hotel. Make sure you’re writing about the one you visited! In most cases we contact the business to invite them to verify the facts (they can not change the review) and in order to do this we need accurate contact details.
Business owners.
If you own a business don’t be tempted to write your own recommendation. Only registered members can submit recommendations and to do so need a valid email address. We check all recommendations before approval and are alert for ‘family or friends’ listings. If your guests have loved the experience of staying at your business why not suggest that they share it on BigVillage? That way the review is independent and your guests have the chance to write an unbiased opinion of your business.
