BigVillage sorts accommodation into seven categories:
Hotel – this includes anything from a little village pub to a 5 star international hotel. Typically rooms are serviced daily.
Apartment – generally fully equipped with kitchen and part of a larger building. Rooms may be serviced only on demand.
Villa – this is a free-standing house that is fully equipped for longer stays.
Bed & Breakfast – made popular by the British who let out rooms in their own home. Available in many different forms in many countries, it’s a great way to meet the locals. Breakfast is included and can range from basic to magnificent.
Farm stay – this style of accommodation has developed over the past decade and is now widely available in some countries. Breakfast is nearly always included and participation in farm activities encouraged. A great alternative for families with small children.
Cabin – Generally basic and compact buildings, although there are some wonderful examples in wilderness areas.
Other – everything from the sublime to the ridiculous. Think luxury Kashmiri house boats, converted train carriages, yurts, barges. We even found a tree house for rent once.
