Our Accommodation Ratings

We rate our listings by two criteria
We find this a better system than the usual accommodation star ratings which are awarded according to a formula based on floor space, size of bathroom, number of power points, etc. This doesn’t always translate into how enjoyable the experience will be: you could have the biggest bathroom and the latest TV, but if the staff are unfriendly or your room is directly above the nightclub you’ll probably not enjoy your stay.

Some members will be more concerned with the experience and not care about the money, while others will want to know if they’re getting good value. Our dual ratings system is designed to allow you to judge listings by one or both criteria. experienceRatingBox.gif

Experience
Experience rates the listed business on everything that happens from arrival to departure. This can include check-in procedure, staff, cleanliness, comfort, views, the concierge offering an umbrella on a rainy day. In your review tell us what makes this place special.

It's quite often the little things that make for a great experience.  Arriving at your booked apartment to find a welcoming bottle of wine waiting for you. Staff who love the area in which they live and share their passion by recommending places to visit and things to see.  The delight of throwing open a window to discover unexpected views to the sea.

Value
valueRatingBox.gifRecommendations are for sharing your special discoveries, therefore any business with less than 3 for Experience would need a compelling reason to be listed. The old hotel on the Left Bank in Paris may be a bit tired and dark, doesn’t score highly on Experience but at €30 a night it’s a bargain. This hotel may have a rating of 2 for Experience and 5 for Value. The simple test to ask is: “Would I recommend this place to my closest friend?”

Value is different to cost. Something can cost a lot of money and still be excellent value. What we’re rating here is: “Is it worth the money?”:
