Good value chateau

Bourges is approximately 200 km south of Paris and well worth a visit. Famed for its Gothic cathedral – the Cathedral of Saint Etienne – which was built at the same time as the Chartres Cathedral and to my eye just as impressive. We found a lovely chateau just out of the city centre where we stayed for two nights. Our room was large and comfortable and staff very helpful. Breakfast was continental style and very good.

The chateau is set in extensive wooded grounds and overlooks the lake. The setting is charming and restful with some delightful walks by the water. There is plenty of parking and access by car simple. We followed the owner's restaurant recommendation and were rewarded with a top quality meal at reasonable price. Value for the chateau was also very good with rooms starting at €58 and going up to €92 for a large room with bath.
